| The Advanced
Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing (AMRC) is the most advanced
facility for materials cutting and assembly technology in the world and
builds on world-renowned expertise which is integral to the aerospace,
automotive and medical implant industries.
Its decision to locate on the 40 hectare AMP
in Rotherham, South Yorkshire as the anchor tenant paves the way for
other world-class blue-chip companies to invest on the UK COAL owned
site where infrastructure work has already been completed. Building work
on the AMRC will begin later this summer.
The AMRC will develop new processes for
the machining and structural analysis of titanium and other novel
materials for aerospace applications which is a key area of research as
the aerospace industry strives to find lighter materials to improve the
efficiency of both commercial and military aircraft.
It will form the research hub of
Yorkshire Forward's pioneering AMP, a joint venture with UK COAL, a key
driver for the region's advanced metals and engineering cluster. The
AMRC will act as a catalyst for supply-chain activity which will attract
and sustain a cluster of high-tech companies creating around 4,500 jobs
on the AMP by 2007.
